Priam

Son of Laomedon, he was king of Troy. He first married Ariste, then Hecuba. He had many children with the latter and he was an old man when the Trojan War broke out. The scene in the Iliad where he goes to beg for the body of the dead Hector from Achilles is one of the most dramatically effective and moving. He was slain by Neoptolemus when the Greek conquerors entered the city. [p.77]
